The Taiwan adoption process can seem frustrating when trying to adopt a child internationally, but the rewards are well worth the wait. There are several steps you must go through before you can be accepted to adopt a child in Taiwan.

The first things that have to be true are that you must be a U.S citizen, you must be 25 years of age, you must pass a criminal background check, show stability in the home with your spouse or yourself if you are single, and more.

The first step to Taiwan adoption you will have to choose an adoption program. There are many adoption agencies to choose from. Once you have decided on the agency a licensed social worker will be assigned to your case. This social worker will do a home study and ensure you are a suited parent for adoption, and you have a suitable home to raise a child. There is no need to run around and clean like crazy, chances are good the social worker won’t do an actual inspection. They just want to know the home is big enough and suitable to raise a child. Once the social worker has approved your home, you should complete the rest of the process immediately. The one year expires and you may need to start over if you have not adopted a child by then.

After completion of the home study and you have been approved by the social worker, you must complete a dossier. This is a stack of paperwork compiled about you and your family including financial records, tax returns from the last 3 years, criminal background checks, health statements from the doctors, photos. You can pay the agency to do this for you for around $800-$1000.

The next step is filling out the I-600-A form; this is the Application for Advanced Processing of Orphan Petition. You can file this or the agency. This will include your entire family’s fingerprints, photos, etc. It will be submitted to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration USCIS. This is the department that will actually approve your request for adoption and determine if you are suited to adopt.

Once you have gone through all of the necessary paperwork, processes, and applications and been approved, you now can find your child. Finding your child can consist of visiting the country, referrals made by matches through the Agency. This works by you specifying what type of child you want; gender, age, health, etc. The agency calls you with a child and you approve or deny. You also can browse photo listings of children who are difficult to place in orphanages and ready for a home.

The costs of adoption in Taiwan may range from $7000-$40,000. Remember, you must travel to the country and stay for a week. Your spouse must go too, unless you are adopting as a single parent.

The process of Taiwan adoption might seem hectic, but it can go quickly and you can have your child home with you in no time.
